The Kanzler-Akte (German: "Chancellor File") is a purported agreement made between Germany and USA in 21 May 1949, which every new German chancellor must sign, pledging loyalty to the US. An indirect proof of its existence is the fact that every single (West) German chancellor since 1945 made an official visit to Washington shortly after coming into office.
