Peer review conspiracy involves academic circles abusing their credentials to discredit or suppress their contemporary's research using peer review.

Conspiracy[]

Peer review is the evaluation of contemporary work by one or more peers with similar competencies. Its purpose is to regulate qualified members of a profession within the relevant field. Peer review methods are used to maintain quality standards, improve performance, and provide credibility.[1]

However, since the creation–evolution controversy of the mid-19th century,[2] peer review has been used to abuse the regulatory effect. The typical motive for regulation is to preserve reputation and mainstream theories, where invested professional careers and research grants are at stake.[3] This creates conditions for conspiracies, such as archaeological coverups or scientific repression.

Peer groups engage in squashing exotic or contradictory research by peer reviewing within their own academic circles, leaving others out. The manipulation of scientific facts are also done to promote a political or anti-religious agenda.[3]
