Despite the comment allegedly being out of context, Colbert had found himself at the center of a social media firestorm. The tag #CancelColbert was put on Twitter since @ColbertReport's tweet of the derogatory line from his show late Thursday night in March 2014. Twitter users called for an apology.[1]

@suey_park wrote, "We are waiting for an apology and explanation, @ColbertReport. #CancelColbert."[1]

In an effort to clarify, the official Twitter account tweeted, "This is a Comedy Central account, with no oversight from Stephen/show.[1]
